A classic first published in 1916. The present edition is very different from the 12th ( 1985 ), which is cited in Brandon - Hill. In addition to reflecting the dramatic advances in knowledge and research, less emphasis is given to the Joslin Diabetes Center and New England Deaconess Hospital experience with various aspects of diabetes care and more to other experiences described in the literature. Following a chapter on the history of diabetes, the remainder of the volume is divided into sections on basic mechanisms, diabetes definition and pathogenesis, obesity and lipoprotein disorders, treatment of diabetes mellitus, onset of the complications of diabetes, complications clinical aspects, and hypoglycemia and islet-cell tumors.
