I maggiori specialisti internazionali intervengono sulle ulimissime implicazioni nel contrasto all' infarto nell'a mbito della ritmologia cardiaca e l' elettrofisiologia.In the last decades, the field of cardiac pacing and electrophysiology received much attention by a large part of cardiologists, and more particularly by the industrial biotechnology. The unbelievable improvements achieved in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias or conduction disturbances ranged from VVI to DDD pacing, from simple to multiprogrammable rate responsive pacemakers, from single chamber to dual, triple and four chambers pacing, with regard to bradyarrhythmias. If we look into the tachyarrhythmias field, the progresses have been even more important with the advent of catheter ablation, using many different leads and energy sources and eventually of the single, dual and triple chamber automatic implantable defibrillators. All these technological and clinical achievements were possible thanks to a tremendous industrial effort which was triggered by cardiologists unsatisfied by the usage of the available pharmacological therapy of such arrhythmias. A new era is in fact started in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, which is the era of non pharmacological treatment of cardiac rhythm disturbances and of their hemodynamic consequences. The amount of scientific evidence of these new types of therapy in the various clinical settings is huge, and obliges the clinical cardiologists and electrophysiologists to continuously update their knowledge. To help them in this effort of continuous medical education it was decided, on behalf of the European Working Group on Cardiac Pacing, to develop an editorial project with the aim to give at least three important contributions to the cardiological science dealing with the Non Pharmacological Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation, Heart Failure and Sudden Death.The faculty of each of them is really outstanding, including many of the most expert cardiologists in Europe and worldwide
