Basic Principles of Drug Discovery and Development provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of drug discovery and development, beginning with an historical overview of drug discovery. It then educates readers about important drug targets by class, in vitro screening methods, medicinal chemistry strategies in drug design, principles in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, animal models of disease states, clinical trial basics, and selected business aspects of the drug discovery process. The textbook is designed so that upon completion of a one semester course, students will have been provided with a basic understanding of the drug discovery process.
