The aim of this manual is to provide the clinician with a practical and easily accessible handbook for ultrasonography of thyroid and neck pathology.
The primary feature is to approach the thyroid directly from the perspective of the ultrasound probe. Thus, we overturned the usual educational paradigm and built a set of flowcharts to be used as an operational guide.
Starting from the analysis of images, with only limited clinical data, these diagnostic processes lead the reader to discover step by step the different pathological situations, according to the logic of a fil rouge. The same fil rouge dictates the order through which thyroid diseases are subsequently explored, in dedicated subchapters.
Finally, this manual could not be considered complete without the description of non-thyroidal pathology of the neck: a collection of frequently encountered findings that must be evaluated confidently when performing ultrasonography of this district, that is, the lymph nodes, parathyroids, and salivary glands. This work has resulted from a collaboration among many authors, each with different areas of expertise.
This breadth of knowledge has provided a comprehensive and multifaceted manual that maintains its original practical purpose.
