Up to 90-100% of the population has HHV-6 (latent in the population at large), with most infected by age 3. HHV-6 has been reported in multiple sclerosis patients and implicated as a co-factor in several other diseases, including chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, AIDS, optic neuritis, cancer, and temporal lobe epilepsy. Since the second edition of the Human Herpes Virus-6 title was published in 2006, a substantial amount of new information has emerged with regard to HHV-6 biology, disease associations, molecular diagnosis etc. The third edition of Human Herpesvirus-6A & 6B will examine the viral role of HHV-6 in diseases including cognitive disorders following bone marrow transplant, mesial temporal lobe epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune disease and encephalitis; provide molecular diagnostic content; and further stimulate collaboration between clinicians, virologists, molecular biologist and pathologists leading advancements in research.
